I think that some norms in groups should be to stay on task, respect each other, share ideas and respect them and be open to suggestions.

What Makes A Good Trailer

A good trailer involves sound effects, flashes of dramatic moments and much more. A trailer needs to tell the beginning of the story in less than about a minute. If the trailer is boring then why would you want to watch the movie? You wouldn’t, simple as that. But since we need to keep people entertained, you need to build suspense.

In my opinion I think that most rules are necessary but others are there just to gain control. I personal only follow rules that make sense to me, if they are not necessary then they are pointless to even follow. CLHS doesn’t really have useless rules, they are fair, reasonable and not too controlling. This gives us students more freedom to do what we please, within reason. I do think it’s unfair when teachers make rules that only involved one person, ex- A students litters in a classroom so the teacher makes a rule that no one is allowed to eat in the classrooms anymore. Instead they should make the students aware that they are ruining their privlagedcges.

In Jonas’ community the elders and community are trying to control everyone and everything so their rules are more precise and strict. A rule like the hair ribbons have to be neatly tide at all times is not necessary for a community to run, you don’t need it. Most of their rules are about hurting each others feelings and being presentable which I think the elders are trying to improve. They are also very concerned about controlling their feelings and making everyone equal, like the rules that you cannot brag and everyone has to wear the clothes they are given so no one looks better than anyone else. Most of these rules are essential if you are trying to rule a community but other wise these rules are pointless and meaningless.

The Giver and Us

In the book The Giver, the elders choose each other’s spouses and children for them. They have to choose these for people because they are not allowed to have certain feelings that make each other attracted to each other, which means they wont have children so birth mothers have to have babies for them. In our society we have feelings for each other so we get to choose who we marry and spend our life with, but in the book they are trying to control that for some reason, it may be a bad or good thing.

The Giver VS Harrison

I would preferably live in the society of the Giver because you have more freedom to be an individual. In the Harrison you are being physically forced to be equal to everyone and that is not right. In the Giver you can look the way you please, think the way you please and be the way you please with still obeying the rules. You are not shot for thinking a certain way or shocked in the head for be ing smarter than anyone. Freely thinking in the Giver makes people be the way they can be. These people are not brainwashed completely and are still different from each other in many ways.

School Breaks-Should it change?

Should the school break dates change? Some would want it during the year and others want it and the end of the year. An idea could be to have the breaks at the end of every month for maybe 2 weeks. This way kids could have a big break every now and then instead of just once or twice a year. But if we did change it this way, parents would have to change their job schedules so their kids aren’t home alone. Since the regular school breaks are already well organized I think it should just stay the same. Everyone has already adapted to it so changing the school breaks would take a lot of getting used to.

The regular school break system is a couple months off on summer, a couple for christmas and one week for easter. Students are always for getting about what they have learned of school breaks, but since the breaks will be more frequent and not as long, they wont tend to forget as much.

Lois Lowry

Lois Lowry was born in Hawaii and was the middle child of 3 a sister and a brother. Since her father was a career military officer she moved several times. She married young at the age of 19 and had 4 children in Maine where they all grew up. Having her son dead by the cause of a plane crash and being divorced cause a lot of tragedy in her life. First Louis started as a photograph and was encouraged to write children’s books. Her first book she wrote was awarded the International Reading Association’s Children’s Book Award. She got awards for writing her many books, she was awarded the Newbery Medal for Number the Stars and The Giver. Still continuing writing, Lowry is enjoying the life of gardening, knitting, and spending time with her companion in Maine.

Spring(christmas) break 2010

I mostly spent time with my family and friends having dinners. I also went to Lloyd with my mom to go shopping and visit my great grandma pepper. After the snow fell i went to my best friends 15th birthday party. There we went on the rhino and went on fun trails and got stuck in the middle of no where and have to walk home after failing at trying to get the rhino out. It was really cold and as soon as we got home we soaked our feet in the bath tub and had hot cocoa. Then we watched scary movies till three o’clock. The next day we did 12 year old activities and watched alice in wonderland. And that was the highlight of my spring/christmas break.

Dan Tysdal

After meeting with Dan Tysdal, i’ve learned that people enjoy being poets because its something they want to do. Its fantastic because they take their life experiences and turned into something to read about. Dan’s first poem was about being rejected in high school, but thanks to his rejection he realized that poetry was for him. I used to think that being a poet could drive a person mad but actually Dan seemed to be pretty normal and have a good sense of humor. I asked him if he always knew he was going to be a poet, he answered that he wanted to be a basketball player. Dan Tysdal is very proud of what he has done which makes him even more respectable.
